So What Wednesday: Wish List Edition

Life After I Dew

For this week's So What Wednesday, I am sharing the things I'd love to have in my possession one day. So, mainly I am saying, "So what if I want all of these things!" I don't need them all at once, but I would love to have them :)

Maskcara IIID Foundation

Source
It's not even available yet, and I am already chomping at the bit. If you only follow one beauty blogger, Maskcara has to be it. She's self-taught which I love, but she's super sweet, knows what she's talking about, and was named Allure's beauty blogger of the year. I've learned so much from her blog!

My Dream Engagement Ring

Source
Not gonna lie, I emailed Kyra the link to this ring yesterday. We aren't going to get engaged anytime soon, but he will need this little nugget of info when the time comes. If this ring landed on my finger, I don't know if I would ever be able to stop staring at it.

Tory Burch Flats

You can never go wrong with black & gold (spoken like a true Mizzou Tiger...sometimes I can't help myself.)

Fresh Flowers in the House Everyday

I love the smell of fresh flowers, and they aren't so bad to look at either. There's just something so refreshing about a bouquet of flowers sitting on the table.

Massage Envy Membership

Source
Members pay a monthly fee which includes one massage/month. If you don't use your massage one month, it rolls over to the next. I would be in heaven and probably much more pleasant to be around.

Jane Not So Plain

I am so thankful for my family. I would not be the person I am without them, and I cannot even begin to express how lucky I feel to have ALL of them a part of my life. My family is not perfect, and we all have had our struggles. But, with all of that, it has shaped who I am and the woman I have become.

Gimme Gimme Gimme

Just popping in to share a few things that I am loving right now...

Flair Pens

Source
I no longer want to write with anything other than a Flair Pen. They write like markers, but don't bleed through paper. It makes my nerdy little heart jump with joy!

A Man who Cooks

I am so unbelievably thankful that Kyra is, among the million other things he's good at, a chef. Of course this is nice on a regular basis when he cooks for me, but it is particularly nice around the holidays. We are hosting a small Thanksgiving meal, and I am so glad that I don't have to do the cooking. I could do it if I had to, but I am so happy I don't.

La La Lovely

Source
Do you follow Design Mom? If not, you should. I discovered La La Lovely through today's "Living with Kids" post. There were many parts of the post that really struck a chord with me, and for nothing else, the La La Lovely site is really pretty and the photography is great.

Double Dates

On Saturday, Kyra and I are going to see Catching Fire with my sister and brother-in-law. Not only am I excited to see the movie, but I am looking forward to spending time with S&P.

That's all for today. Have a great Tuesday! And, happy (early) Thanksgiving!

Foodie Friday: Easy Guacamole

I am participating in a new-to-me link party today, and I am so excited to share a recipe for yummy, easy guacamole! If you're looking for new recipes to try, check out the link party because there are tons of great ideas.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 small avocados
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Dash of onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon cilantro, finely chopped
  • 8-10 cherry tomatoes, quartered and seeds removed

DIRECTIONS:

Peel avocados and remove pits. Add all ingredients to a small mixing bowl and mash with a fork.

So easy, yet so delicious!

While I did dip a few chips in the fresh guac, I used it as a "layer" in a layer dip for one. Basically, I spread 1/3 of the guacamole on a plate, then added a bit of brown rice, black beans, and shredded cheddar. Eat with tortilla chips, and enjoy the yumminess!

Our Love Story

Today is mine and Kyra's 2nd anniversary, so I thought it would only be appropriate for me to share how we met/fell in love.

A little background...

I graduated from college in May 2011, and I was not in such a great place, mentally. A former boyfriend and I had broken up a month before, and I was at a loss as to what I was going to do post-college. I moved home from Mizzou on a Saturday, and I started waiting tables at Trainwreck, a bar/restaurant in the STL area, the following Tuesday. I worked at Trainwreck full time from June 2011-April 2012; I still work there a few Saturday nights a month. They are like family to me, and I will forever be grateful for that.

On to the story...

Ok, so Trainwreck has live music Thursday-Saturday nights, and one Saturday night that I was working, Kyra's band, Killing Vegas, was playing. That's the first time I saw Kyra, but we didn't actually meet that night. I can remember exactly what he was wearing, and I remember thinking that he was really hot! I later found out that another guy in the band, one of Kyra's best friends, told him that he should talk to me. The stars definitely started aligning that night...

A couple months after I started at Trainwreck, Kyra started working in the kitchen a couple days a week. At the time, he was in sonography school full-time, so he worked multiple part-time jobs to supplement. While I don't think it was intentional, I started being scheduled the same shifts that Kyra was working.

We chatted here and there because we were working together, but nothing happened right away. I knew he was considerably older than I am, but I just felt so drawn to him.

After getting done with a shift at Trainwreck, it is not uncommon to stay and have a "shift drink." I didn't stay after every shift, but I did stay if Kyra was still on the clock or if he was hanging out after work, so I could try to talk to him more. Little did I know, he was doing the exact same thing with me.

There was one night, I was working on the patio, but I had stepped inside to do some side work. I saw Kyra walk out the front door to leave (you have to walk through the patio to leave) and didn't think much of it and went about my business. Literally a few seconds later, Kyra comes up and says, "Goodnight Tori." He came back in to say goodbye to me :)

After that, I knew I had it bad. There was just something so different about him that I was enamored with. We spent hours talking after work, getting to know each other. The more I got to know him, the more I liked him. Eventually, he asked for my number, then a little while later asked me out on a date.

The way he asked me out on our first date is a story that I cannot wait to tell our kids one day...

It was a Friday and payday, so he came to pick up his check. I was winding down my lunch shift, and we chatted a bit. He tells me he is going to see his friends' band play, and then says, "If you get a wild hair up your butt, you should join me." I think a giggled a bit, said ok, and kinda brushed it off. After he left, he texted me with, "What I meant to say was that I would like for you to hang out with me." I still like to tease him about it.

After our first few dates, we were pretty much inseparable. We instantly clicked and loved spending time with each other. Our first date was October 15th, and we became "official" on November 21st. From those first days at Trainwreck, I knew he was special. I don't think it was necessarily "love at first sight," but I knew deep down that I could see an amazing future with him. I have not looked back since!

He is the love of my life, and I feel so lucky that I found him. I have dreamt/prayed about him since I was a little girl. He treats me the way I always hoped someone would, and I love him more than I thought I could ever love someone else.

So, happy anniversary Kyra J! You are my heart and soul, and I love you to the moon and back!

Sorry for the novel, but thank you for reading!

Kyra's Killer Full Body Workout

button

Today, I'd like to share a workout I did with Kyra last week. It works multiple muscle groups and left me sore for a couple days after...just my kind of work out :)

EQUIPMENT:

  • 3 dumbbells: two heavier ones and a lighter one. I used 20lbs for the heavier and 10lbs for the lighter, but adjust to your strength/preferred weight.
  • A weight bench set at an incline. If you are doing this at home and don't have a weight bench, swap the incline presses with a regular bench press and lay flat.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

  • If you aren't familiar with any of these exercises, there are tons of YouTube videos that demonstrate how to do them. Or, ask a trainer or someone at the gym to help a sister out.
  • Use the heavier set of dumbbells for the dead lifts, rows and bench press. You'll use the lighter one for the single arm press. At least, this is how it worked out for both Kyra and I.
  • For the reverse lunges, you'll do the press with the same arm as the leg that your are lunging with. And, you'll do the reverse lunge, then the single arm press when you return to standing.
  • Though I am not an expert, I did take this workout from a certified personal trainer (Kyra). If you have questions, feel free to ask. If I can answer them, I will. If not, I will ask Kyra.

I am thinking about having Kyra guest posts, a Q&A, or something that will lend his trainer knowledge to you guys. Would you be interested in something like that?

Monday Musings

I'm taking a page out of my girl Marcia's book and sharing some favorites as of late...

Besides the four things above, my weekend was consumed with holiday productivity! I went shopping with my mom, sister, and grandma on Saturday, and I got started on my holiday crafting on Sunday. Tis the season!

PS

Kyra made pancakes and eggs for breakfast on Sunday, and SOMEONE got a leftover egg...

Kyra's decision, not mine. Like I've said before, he spoils her rotten!

Non-Scale Victory

button

Posts two days in a row? HOLLA! Anyway, I have a couple small non-scale victories to share with you today.

-ONE-

On Tuesday and Wednesday, I met Kyra at the gym for a work out. I'm so lucky and thankful that he's a personal trainer. And, the sweet thing always fits me into his busy schedule at the gym. It's also nice because it's time we wouldn't otherwise get to spend together.

-TWO-

I mentioned awhile back that I am training for the St. Louis Hot Chocolate 15K in December. Well, on Tuesday I had a 2 mile run to get in. Here's how it went down... I walked into the locker room after I finished mine and Kyra's workout. I literally stopped in my tracks in the middle of the locker room and had an internal conversation with myself. I thought about why I didn't want to do my run...my legs were tired, and I already got a good work out in. I needed to go to the grocery, come home, cook, etc. Then, it was like something clicked, and I thought, "No, I'm gonna get my happy behind on the dang treadmill." Though I didn't run a whole 2 miles, I did log 1.25, and I couldn't be happier with that.

I have to tell you, my endurance and willpower has been so different since running my half marathon. Having to mentally push myself through that race has made me realize that I am capable of so much more than I ever gave myself credit for.

-30 Days of Thanks-

Jane Not So Plain

Today, I am thankful for the body that I was given. Is it perfect? Not even close. But, it does carry my heart and soul through this life. Our bodies are our vessels, and we need to treat them with the respect they deserve...something I need to remind myself often.

So What Wednesday!

Hi friends! Sorry I have been MIA lately. Work has been crazy busy, and by the time I get home and done being an adult (ya know, doing the dishes, working on the laundry, going to the grocery store, etc.), I don't have the energy to do much else besides lay on the couch. Hopefully, I will be better/inspired to come to this place more often.

In the mean time, so what if:

  • Shanny and I have matching coats to wear when it gets cold outside. They're purple :)
  • I haven't gotten a haircut in over 5 months. Don't worry, I will be fixing that this evening. #goodbyedeadends
  • I like to use hashtags in blog posts. #dontcare

  • My first attempt at making sweet potato chips was mostly a success. While they are edible, I will NOT be making them again without a mandolin slicer. My knife skills are terrible, and I was terrified of chopping off a finger the entire time.
  • I have started my Christmas shopping and planning what I will be making for people. I am determined to not have to finish things up on Christmas Eve. Again.

What are you saying "So What" to?

-30 Days of Thanks-

Today, I am thankful for the friends I have made through Jane Not So Plain. You guys are awesome! Thank you for reading, commenting, and following along on this journey. MUAH!

Weekend Recap: Halloween Edition

Happy Monday, JNSPers! I'm popping in today to do a little photo recap of my weekend. Let's get to it shall we?

I'm so happy with how my black bird makeup turned out! Feathered eyebrows, rhinestoned cheeks, and black-lined lips...intriguing and the perfect compliment to my costume.

Up-close shot of my skirt. I basically took a black pillowcase and turned it into a skirt with an elastic waist, then added different fabrics and feathers to it.

I also made a belt to accentuate my waist a bit and give me more of a shape.

Head-to-toe look. I wore a black tank tucked into my skirt, then paired it with fishnets and black sparkly flats. Overall, I loved my costume and was happy with how it all turned out. One of the reasons I love Halloween so much is because I get to use my creativity to make something cool that I wouldn't wear or make any other time of the year!

Kyra dressed up as a vampire, and he let me put some makeup on him to make him look more the part. Overall, we had such a blast at the parties we went to. It was a great weekend!

-30 Days of Thanks-

Today, I am thankful that Kyra loves Shanny as much as I do. He helps take care of her without a complaint, cuddles up with her when I'm not home, and spoils her rotten. Love them both so much!

Also, feel free to grab the "30 Days of Thanks" button from my sidebar. I'd love to do a link party at the end of the month to celebrate all that we're thankful for!

Happy (Five on) Friday!

-ONE-

Happy November! This month officially kicks off the holiday season, and I couldn't be happier and more excited to experience this time of year. I made the decision to take a break from working on my Master's and focus on being present and in the moment with loved ones throughout November and December.

-TWO-

This weekend will be kicked off with 2 Halloween parties, and I am super excited to finally wear my bird costume. I can't wait to show you all pictures of the final product! If I can get my hair and makeup the way I want it, I think it will be the perfect touch. Which reminds me, I need to work on my bird call for tonight...

-THREE-

I start training next week for the Hot Chocolate 15K on December 15th! I used the SmartCoach feature from Runner's World to create a training plain, and I am definitely ready to get back into training mode.

-FOUR-

Today, I'm starting my 30 Days of Thanks. If you'd like to join me, feel free to grab the button and include what you're thankful for in your normal posts throughout the month of November. If you do decide to join me, please leave a comment or send me an email (janenotsoplainblog@gmail.com) because I'd love to follow along and read your posts.

Jane Not So Plain

I'm thankful for my Kyra J. He's such a blessing and an amazing man. He's so full of love and makes me feel like a million bucks every single day. Though our 2 year anniversary is this month, I feel like I've known him my whole life. I'm such a lucky girl!

-FIVE-

And, lastly, happy #backthatazzup Friday! I'm loving this song:
